How do I measure my leadership?

How do I measure my leadership?

What did I do for my team last week?

Did I ask them how they are?

Did I coach and mentor them?

Did I provide honest feedback to them?

Did I recognize their job?

Did I support them when they failed?

Did I tell my team what I expect from them?

Did I introduce someone to them?

Did I hire the right person?

Did I talk about their career development?

Did I ask them what they need from me?

Did I do what I said I was going to do for them?

Did I give them time in a safe environment to speak up?

Did I listen to them?

Did I take responsibility when my team screwed up?

Did I help them to resolve their problem?

Did I talk candidly, kindly, and respectfully to them?

Over the last few years, I have been asking myself those questions every Friday at 5:00 pm. It is a powerful and simple exercise that helps me stay focused on what matters most, change when necessary, and learn when I fail.
