Just Do It

Do it because you can’t not.
Some decisions don’t require deep analysis.
In 2013, I left my comfortable life in Argentina to join Groupon.
In 2016, I stepped away from management to move to the U.S. as an individual contributor.
In 2020, I went from leading a team of 23 to a team of six to join Amazon.
None of these choices felt obvious or easy at the time. I wasn’t sure if I was making the right move. I didn’t have a grand plan, but I just knew I couldn’t not do it.
If I had overanalyzed every risk, I could have found a hundred reasons to say no. But looking back, I know I’d regret not taking the chance.
As Eric Schmidt once told Sheryl Sandberg before she joined Facebook: “If you’re offered a seat on a rocket ship, don’t ask what seat. Just get on.”
I didn’t know where these decisions would lead. But I’ve learned that when an opportunity passes, it rarely comes back the same—if at all.
Sometimes, the best move is the one you can’t ignore.
P.S. I snapped this photo today in Vancouver while visiting one of my teams. Funny how one decision years ago led me here.
