What I would not delegate to AI

I’ve been thinking about the things I wouldn’t delegate to AI. I’m sure there are more so please comment with the ones you’re thinking of.

Accountability: Don’t outsource responsibility for outcomes to AI. It’s on you as a leader. That’s still human territory. AI will still “sleep” well at night and won’t be fired. You might be.

Judgment: AI doesn’t know your values, your goals, your feelings, or the nuances of your business. It’s trained on broad data that’s not always up to date. Nobody is better than you at making the call when things are ambiguous. AI cannot decide what’s right or wrong. Again, that’s on you.

Real creativity: AI isn’t mischievous. It doesn’t get sarcasm or irony, or know when you need to break a rule. And invention often looks wrong at first. Many times good creativity hides in that odd word or playful twist used in the right place or/and at the right time. That’s a very human skill.

AI needs (and will need) a lot of supervision and guardrails. It often acts like an irresponsible kid, so double down on what we, as adult humans, are good at because that will never get outdated or replaced.
